There was a wonderful buzz of excitement in the air as our Year 4 children gathered for their highly anticipated annual sleepover. For many pupils, this special event marks their first overnight stay away from home with their classmates, providing a supportive stepping stone towards future residential trips later in Key Stage 2.

Step right up for circus fun on the grass area

The evening began outside on the grass area, where the children threw themselves into a range of energetic circus activities. Taking advantage of the outdoor space, the pupils tested their balance and coordination as they practised juggling, plate-spinning, and ribbon-twirling under the guidance of our staff. It was a joyful start to the event, filled with laughter and fantastic teamwork.

Delicious pizza and a lively talent show in the hall

After burning off plenty of energy outdoors, everyone moved into the main hall for a delicious pizza feast. Once refuelled, the hall transformed into a stage for the spectacular Year 4 talent show.

Our courageous pupils took to the stage to showcase an impressive array of talents, including:

• Musical performances: Keyboard melodies, guitar solos, and lively group sing-alongs.

• Dance routines: Choreographed street dance numbers and gymnastics routines.

• Comedy acts: Clever jokes and funny skits that had both staff and pupils laughing out loud.

The warm encouragement and enthusiastic applause shown by all the children for their peers highlighted the inclusive community spirit we nurture at Roger Ascham Primary School.

Winding down to sleep in the classrooms

Following the excitement in the hall, the children headed to the classrooms, which had been transformed into cosy sleeping areas with sleeping bags, mats, and blankets. Settling down with hot chocolate and a bedtime movie, the pupils gradually wound down for a restful night's sleep.

In the morning, the children enjoyed a healthy breakfast together before starting a new day with wonderful memories and a real sense of independence.

We are incredibly proud of how brilliantly our Year 4 pupils represented Roger Ascham Primary School throughout the night. A heartfelt “Thank You” goes to our dedicated staff members who gave up their evening to create such a memorable experience for our children.
