A Celebration in Song: Nina Simone Concert

A shared melody: community gathers for a legendary performance.
The hallways of Roger Ascham Primary School were recently filled with the powerful, moving music of Nina Simone, as children performed a stunning tribute concert for a very special audience: their parents and carers. The event, held on Thursday, 6th November, saw pupils from across the school take to the stage to sing some of the iconic artist's most beloved songs. From soulful ballads to upbeat jazz numbers, the children's performances were a heartfelt and vibrant demonstration of musical talent, allowing the entire school community to share in an impressive appreciation for a true legend. It was a wonderful way for our students to connect with her inspiring life and influential work.
The concert was not only an enjoyable musical showcase but a meaningful educational experience, bringing the story of Nina Simone—pianist, singer, and civil rights activist—to life for our pupils. The dedication shown by the performers and the enthusiastic applause from the parents and staff made the day a resounding success, highlighting the strong bond within the Roger Ascham community. We extend a huge thank you to all the families who joined us to celebrate one of the 20th century's most important voices. Bravo to all our talented stars!
