Year 4 Expedition: unearthing ancient Egypt

A day of discovery at the British Museum

Roger Ascham's year 4 students recently embarked on a captivating field trip to the British Museum to bring their topic on Ancient Egypt to life. Stepping into the museum, the children were immediately immersed in history, surrounded by genuine artifacts that they had previously only seen in books. Their exploration focused intensely on the impressive Egyptian collection, where they were able to examine the famous Rosetta Stone, deciphering its significance in unlocking hieroglyphs. The highlight for many was viewing the ancient sarcophagi and mummies, which sparked lively discussions about Egyptian burial customs and beliefs in the afterlife.

This hands-on experience provided an invaluable and memorable educational boost, cementing their knowledge and inspiring a deeper curiosity about this fascinating civilisation.
