Our magical World Book Day 2026

Reflecting on a week of imagination and adventure at Roger Ascham.

We have just finished a spectacular week of literary celebrations here at Roger Ascham Primary School. From 2nd to 6th March, our children immersed themselves in the world of stories, exploring how books can spark creativity and take us on incredible journeys.

A journey through the imagination

The highlight of our celebrations was exploring the whole-school text, Journey by Aaron Becker. Our pupils used this tale of adventure to inspire their own creative writing and beautiful artwork in class.

To make the week even more special, we enjoyed:

  • The Big Bedtime Read: Children and staff came to school in cosy pyjamas and onesies, bringing along their favourite teddy bears to share stories.
  • Mystery Guest Readers: Each class was visited by a secret guest who shared a beloved book.

  • Reading Buddies: Pupils had wonderful opportunities to sit together and share their favourite tales with their peers.

  • Library Visits: Every class spent time in our school library to select and borrow a new book to enjoy.

Breakfast and books

On Thursday 5th March, we held a very successful Reading Morning supported by FRAPS. It was lovely to see so many families visiting the Infant and Junior halls to share a book and enjoy some breakfast refreshments together. The school also provided free fruit and biscuits for all children to enjoy while they read in their classrooms.
