A journey back to 1940

Year 4 pupils explore the history of the Second World War at the RAF Museum
This week, our Year 4 classes took a step back in time during an immersive visit to the Royal Air Force Museum in London. As part of their history studies on the Second World War, the children had the incredible opportunity to stand beneath the wings of the very aircraft that flew during the Battle of Britain.
The trip provided a poignant and powerful way for the pupils to connect with the past, moving beyond textbooks to see the scale of the machinery and hear the stories of the people who lived through the conflict.
The staff at the museum were highly impressed by the thoughtful questions and deep historical knowledge displayed by our Year 4 pupils. It was clear that the children of Roger Ascham Primary School had prepared well for the trip, showing great empathy when discussing the impact of the war on ordinary people.
Seeing the legendary Spitfire and the massive Lancaster bomber in person was an experience the children will not soon forget. These memories will provide a brilliant foundation for their creative writing and history projects back at school.
