A grand master performance at the CSC chess tournament

Roger Ascham pupils showcase their strategic skills in community competition
We are incredibly proud to announce the recent success of our pupils at the latest Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) tournament. It was a day filled with intense focus, clever tactics, and brilliant sportsmanship as our children sat down to face some of the best young players in the area.
Every child from Roger Ascham Primary School who participated showed remarkable dedication. Chess is a demanding game that requires patience and foresight, and seeing our pupils apply the lessons they have learned in school to a competitive environment was truly inspiring.
Victory on the board
The highlight of the event was the outstanding performance of one of our own, who managed to secure first place in his age category. Navigating through several rounds of play without losing his concentration, he demonstrated the kind of strategic thinking we encourage across all our subjects.
"It was wonderful to see the children supporting one another between matches. Winning the trophy was the icing on the cake for a fantastic day of learning."
Beyond the silverwork and the certificates, the event provided a wonderful opportunity for our children to engage with the wider community and build confidence in their own abilities. We look forward to seeing our chess club continue to grow and flourish throughout the rest of the academic year.
