The pupils in years 4 and 5 at Roger Ascham Primary School took part in a vibrant and deeply educational singing workshop to mark Windrush Day. Delivered by our partners at GB Carnival, this fully-funded cultural opportunity allowed the children to explore the profound history and lasting legacy of the Windrush Generation through the power of music. During the session, each class spent time learning to sing the iconic song Many Rivers to Cross by the legendary Jamaican reggae pioneer, Jimmy Cliff. 

Beyond the vocal coaching, the workshop provided a meaningful space for discussion. The pupils thoughtfully explored the core themes of hope, resilience, migration, and belonging. By analysing the powerful lyrics of the song, the children reflected on what these words truly meant to the members of the Windrush Generation as they journeyed to make a new home in Britain. It was a wonderful opportunity for Roger Ascham Primary School to celebrate community, diversity, and shared history through creative participation.
