The face of soul: Nina Simone art exhibition

From the easel to the soul: capturing an icon in art
On Thursday, 6th November, Roger Ascham's students unveiled a dazzling art exhibition, portraying Nina Simone through a variety of mediums and styles, which was opened for parent viewing. Every pupil had the opportunity to use their creativity to capture the essence of the legendary singer, pianist, and activist, resulting in a vibrant and diverse collection of portraits and expressive pieces. The exhibition transformed the school hall into a gallery, allowing students to proudly guide their families through and admire the incredible talent and thought put into each artwork.
The pieces on display were a testament to the students’ imaginative interpretation of Nina Simone's life and powerful presence. From bold, colourful paintings reflecting her dynamic stage personality to thoughtful sketches capturing her intensity, the exhibition successfully highlighted her importance as a cultural and social figure. This cross-curricular project beautifully combined art and history, and having the parents there to appreciate the work truly completed the learning experience. Congratulations to all our young artists and thank you to our families for celebrating the children’s creativity!
