    Wednesday 25th March 2020

    Hello Everyone,

School is a very quiet place this week!

If you are a key worker and you have not yet spoken to me about how we can help when you are unable to keep your child safe at home then please phone or email the school office. We are here during the week and during the Easter holiday.

If you have not yet collected your child’s pack of work then please do so. All teachers are posting work onto the website every day – and responding to pupils’ queries, but their work packs are essential to their home learning.

On behalf of everyone I would like to thank Emmanuel, our wonderful cook. He is preparing lunches still each day (chicken and roast potatoes today!) All parents with children entitled to a free school meal can come and collect a take away lunch every week day.

Class teachers will phone you each week to check how your children are getting on. Children and parents are able to email any queries regarding their work and teachers will respond the next day.

Keep your distance – keep safe.

    Best wishes to you all

    M Hanks

    20th March 2020

    Dear Parents,

School will be closed from Monday.

We will remain open for pupils with an EHC plan and pupils under the care of a social worker. We have already spoken to you if your child is in one of these categories.

School will also be open for some pupils if their parents’ work is vital to the COVID-19 response but only if they cannot be safely cared for at home. The government’s guidance is very clear.

most recent scientific advice on how to further limit the spread of COVID-19 is clear. If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading. That is why the government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.”

Please, therefore, follow these key principles:

    • If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be.
    • If a child needs specialist support, is vulnerable or has a parent who is a critical worker, then educational provision will be available for them.
    • Parents should not rely for childcare upon those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as the elderly or people with underlying conditions.
    • Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.

If your work is critical to the COVID-19 response, or you work in one of the critical sectors listed by the government and you cannot keep your child safe at home then your children will be prioritised for education provision:

The government’s full list is available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

The kitchen will be open from 12.15 – 1pm on Monday to provide a lunch for any child who is entitled to a free school dinner. Please be aware that this will be a take away service only.

I will continue to post regular updates on the school website.

  • School arrangements for Covid 19

    19th March 2020

    Dear Parents,

As I am sure you all know, our school will be shutting for the majority of pupils on Friday. All schools will remain closed for the foreseeable future. We currently have no indication of how long we will be closed for.

I will post regular updates on the school website. Visit our school website rapsch.co.uk and click on either Noticeboard or Latest News.

Schools will remain open for all pupils with an EHC plan, all pupils under the care of a social worker and all children of parents on the list of key workers. We are all still waiting for the government to tell us who will qualify for the list of key workers. Please understand that it will not be our decision as to who is included. The government has indicated that perhaps 10% of pupils will still be able to attend school.

While we are closed, all teachers will post daily lesson plans on our website. We will show children how to access these tomorrow. We will also send home and post on the website clear instructions. We plan to provide a range of opportunities including daily English and maths work, weekly science and topic work and longer running projects as well as any websites we think would be particularly useful for you at home.

The kitchen will be open from 12.15 – 1pm on Monday to provide a lunch for any child who is entitled to a free school dinner. Please be aware that this will be a take away service only.

Please visit the school website for future updates. I will post these regularly.

My very best wishes go out to you all and your families. Please take good care of one another, particularly your elderly loved ones.

    Yours sincerely,

    M Hanks

  • London Marathon

Mon 16 Mar 2020 Miss Young

After 10 weeks of trying my best to follow the marathon's training plan, I have been told it is delayed until October. I am very competitive, so I am now going to continue training so I can complete it in a quicker time. At the beginning of January I was saying I wouldn't be able complete it in 6 hours, at the beginning of February, I changed my mindset and aimed to finish in 5 hours 30 minutes and at the beginning of March I started thinking I could push myself to finish it in 5 hours. My new aim will be between 4-4.5 hours, but I will keep you updated nearer the time.

Ms Ashraff completed her latest half marathon in less than 2 hours... I wonder if I can beat that in August.
